Cabinet approves construction of three fuel storage tanks and long-term fuel supply contracts

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of three new fuel storage tanks at the Muthurajawela Terminal. The contract for this project, valued at US$3.04 million and Rs. 2.796 billion (excluding VAT), was awarded to a joint venture of M/s Indo-East Engineering & Construction (Lanka) (Private) Limited and Ceylex Engineering (Private) Limited, who were the lowest bidders in an international competitive tender.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved long-term contracts for the supply of petrol, Murban crude oil, and diesel to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. These contracts are with Singaporean firms.

Separately, the Cabinet also approved a proposal to procure new vehicles and equipment for the operation and maintenance of expressways, with an allocated budget of Rs. 1.2 billion.

Why it scored 7/10: The approval of new fuel storage and long-term fuel supply contracts has a significant national economic impact, affecting energy security and infrastructure, while the expressway procurement is a notable but smaller expenditure.
