Government to process 30,000 MT of paddy into rice for market release through Sathosa outlets
The Sri Lankan government plans to process 30,000 metric tons of paddy into rice for market release. This rice will be distributed through Sathosa outlets.
This initiative follows a recommendation from the 34th Food Policy and Security Committee meeting held on 2026-07-22. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the conversion of paddy stocks owned by the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) into rice via the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment.
The objective of this measure is to facilitate the government's paddy procurement process. So far, the government has purchased 27,458 metric tons of paddy.
