Kandy Esala Perahera begins with Kap planting ceremony; special traffic and security plans announced

The Kandy Esala Perahera rituals have commenced with the Kap planting ceremony. This event marks the beginning of the annual perahera, which is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 28.

In preparation for the perahera, special traffic and security plans have been announced by the police. These plans include a real-time information system and specific arrangements for the first Kumbal Perahera. A special traffic plan was implemented in Kaduwela today, and another for the Kandy Esala Perahera is set to begin tomorrow.

The Sri Lanka Police has unveiled a security and traffic plan for the Kandy Esala Perahera 2026, and a similar plan for the opening procession of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera. The Kandy Esala Perahera is an annual event held in homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha.
