UNDP and Ministry of Industry partner for industrial development; EU supports eco-labelling framework
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development (MoIED) have formed a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to enhance the Ministry's institutional and technical capacity through the establishment of an Expert Support Unit. The initiative is designed to accelerate industrial development, strengthen entrepreneurship and SME competitiveness, and advance evidence-based policymaking.
Separately, an EU-backed initiative has brought together over 50 public and private sector leaders in Colombo. This gathering focused on strengthening Sri Lanka’s National Eco-Labelling Framework (NELF).
Representatives from government institutions, industry associations, eco-labelling scheme owners, certification bodies, technical experts, and development partners explored methods to enhance a trusted system for eco-labelling. This effort is intended to build momentum for a more sustainable marketplace.
