Man arrested and remanded for spreading false claims about alleged LTTE training camp
A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for allegedly spreading unverified and false information regarding an LTTE training camp. The arrest was made in connection with claims about an alleged LTTE camp.
The suspect was subsequently remanded. Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala revealed further details about the man, who had previously held a media briefing making these claims.
Investigations have revealed that there was no truth to the social media claim that the LTTE had set up a training facility in the Pallai forest reserve in the former warzone.
Why it scored 5/10: The event involves a national security-related claim, an arrest by a specialized division, and a public statement from a minister, indicating notable national news, despite the claim being false.
