PUCSL Approves Daily One-Hour Power Cuts Following NSO Request and Lakvijaya Plant Outage
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved daily one-hour scheduled power cuts. This approval was granted on Monday (19) following a formal request from the National System Operator (NSO).
The NSO, through its Chief Executive Officer Buddhika Samarasekara, had proposed these power interruptions to continue through October 21. The power cuts are occurring amid the shutdown of all three generating units at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai.
Scheduled power cuts continued across the country yesterday and are expected to continue today. Some reports indicate power cuts will continue in four zones today due to electricity demand management.
Why it scored 8/10: The event has a major national impact due to widespread power cuts affecting daily life and the economy, with multiple credible sources converging quickly on the news.
